Coastal Front Yard Landscaping

"Working with Laurie was so natural. Having seen her outstanding results at my Mom's house, how could I consider anyone else? Laurie was certain to garner the most important design elements from both my husband and myself. She helped us incorporate smaller details we hadn't considered which added to the overall picture we were collectively creating. Laurie was diligent at getting the details right for the design and flexible as we came to incorporate new ideas, materials, etc. She understood our desire to match the look and feel of our home and to work with the local climate, salinity, etc. Laurie's resulting design does just what we needed it to do with even more charm and balance than we'd imagined."

This coastal front yard landscaping project needed to provide an entertainment area in the front yard as this get the most sun. The landscaping needed to be low maintenance as the front yard is exposed to salt air and high winds.  The landscaping needed to provide a semi private space for relaxing and entertaining.

The homeowners were not interested in plants and gardening, so a landscape design with low maintenance coastal plants was needed.

The existing front yard landscaping was basically weeds and a large tree.
A synthetic deck and raised bed with low maintenance coastal plants with built in irrigation were the centerpiece of the new front yard landscaping design.

Raised bed planters were built along the sidewalk and planted with Rockrose. When the plants grow in they will be level with the top of the benches and offer privacy to those seated on the lower deck. Synthetic decking was used due to the coastal site conditions and the homeowner's desire for a low maintenance landscaping.

The existing entry was dangerous. The steps were uneven; the porch narrow, and the screen door opened out, literally knocking visitors off the porch. A new upper porch landing was designed, with lower deck with built in benches and tables to eliminate the problem of the wind blowing furniture off the porch.

Blue stone cobbles were selected to add charm and promote a cottage feel in keeping with the architecture of the house. The whimsical landscape lighting adds a magical and welcoming touch to this project, while the vine covered arbor reinforces the transition from public to private space and adds a charming touch to the overall design plan.

Coastal winds, roaming raccoons and ants were causing problems with the trash and recycle bins. The new front yard landscaping design included a custom, lockable storage unit for two large containers and three small recycle bins.

The new front yard landscaping now gives this family a sunny, low maintenance place to relax with improved curb appeal and privacy.
