"I love my new landscaping. It turned out to be a masterpiece. I can't wait for the plants to grow and grow and grow!"

The landscaping for this Burlingame hills home consisted mainly of mature juniper bushes and little else in the way of curb appeal. The paving stone walkway was faded and the large shrubs continued to grow over the walkway, creating a maintenance problem.
The homeowner was interested in a garden design that would improve the home's curb appeal and adding some color, while coordinating the new landscaping with the home's Asian style architecture.
All existing landscaping and plants were removed, except a prized Jade plant, which was replanted to add a touch of Asian style as part of the new garden design. The existing irrigation was updated and a large basalt rock column fountain was installed with a mix of black pebbles and blue Fescue plants around the base to add a water element and reinforce the Asian style theme.
The garden design called for two small stack-stone retaining walls that were installed and inter-planted to the left of the driveway. The existing retaining wall was partially covered with matching stone to coordinate with the new garden design.
To add additional Asian style to the garden, the design specified three varieties of Japanese Maple trees be planted. With their beautiful form, fall color and popularity, Japanese Maples were perfect choices. The remaining plants selected for this project were a mix of drought tolerant shrubs, flowering perennials and a few annuals for color. Trailing Rosemary was planted at the top of the large retaining wall and once grown in, it will further soften its appearance.
